Honoring Those Who Served
The Charles Earnest Scott American Legion Post 47 Honor Guard provides dignified military honors for veterans and participates in patriotic ceremonies throughout Dodge City and Southwest Kansas.
The Honor Guard preserves military customs and traditions while paying tribute to the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans.
Every appearance is conducted with dignity, professionalism, gratitude, and respect for veterans, their families, and the communities we serve.
One of the Honor Guard’s most important responsibilities is assisting with military funeral honors for eligible veterans.
Depending on the service, available personnel, and arrangements made with the family and funeral home, honors may include:

The playing of Taps provides a final musical tribute to the veteran and marks a moment of remembrance and reflection.
Honor Guard members render military courtesies that recognize the veteran’s service and sacrifice.
When appropriate and available, additional ceremonial elements may be included as part of the veteran’s final tribute.
The Honor Guard also supports public ceremonies and community events that recognize veterans, preserve military traditions, and teach future generations about service and sacrifice.
Participation in ceremonies that recognize all who served in the United States Armed Forces.
Participation in observances honoring military personnel who died while serving the nation.
Support for remembrance ceremonies honoring veterans through the placement of memorial wreaths.
Ceremonial participation for schools, civic organizations, community gatherings, and special veteran-recognition events.
Families, funeral homes, schools, civic organizations, and community groups may contact Post 47 to request Honor Guard assistance.

The Post 47 Honor Guard primarily serves Dodge City and surrounding Southwest Kansas communities whenever personnel and scheduling allow.
Requests outside the immediate area will be considered based on distance, availability, and the nature of the service or ceremony.
Veterans interested in helping preserve military traditions and honor fellow veterans are encouraged to contact Post 47.
Honor Guard service provides an opportunity to represent The American Legion during meaningful moments in the lives of veterans, families, schools, and communities.
