Honor Guard

Honoring Those Who Served

The Charles Earnest Scott American Legion Post 47 Honor Guard provides dignified military honors for veterans and participates in patriotic ceremonies throughout Dodge City and Southwest Kansas.

Our Mission

The Honor Guard preserves military customs and traditions while paying tribute to the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans.

Every appearance is conducted with dignity, professionalism, gratitude, and respect for veterans, their families, and the communities we serve.

Military Funeral Honors

One of the Honor Guard’s most important responsibilities is assisting with military funeral honors for eligible veterans.

Depending on the service, available personnel, and arrangements made with the family and funeral home, honors may include:

Presentation of the Flag

A folded United States flag may be presented to the veteran’s designated family member as a symbol of honorable and faithful service.

Playing of Taps

The playing of Taps provides a final musical tribute to the veteran and marks a moment of remembrance and reflection.

Military Salute

Honor Guard members render military courtesies that recognize the veteran’s service and sacrifice.

Final Honors

When appropriate and available, additional ceremonial elements may be included as part of the veteran’s final tribute.

Patriotic and Community Ceremonies

The Honor Guard also supports public ceremonies and community events that recognize veterans, preserve military traditions, and teach future generations about service and sacrifice.

Veterans Day

Participation in ceremonies that recognize all who served in the United States Armed Forces.

Memorial Day

Participation in observances honoring military personnel who died while serving the nation.

Wreaths Across America

Support for remembrance ceremonies honoring veterans through the placement of memorial wreaths.

Schools and Civic Events

Ceremonial participation for schools, civic organizations, community gatherings, and special veteran-recognition events.
