Dodge City, Kansas – Honoring Veterans, Promoting Patriotism, Serving Our Community
Serving Veterans. Strengthening Our Community. Inspiring Future Generations.
Every program supported by Charles Earnest Scott American Legion Post 47 exists to serve others. Whether we are supporting veterans, mentoring young people, honoring military service, or partnering with local schools, our programs turn our values into meaningful action.
The American Legion was founded by veterans who believed that service to the nation should continue long after military service ended. Post 47 carries that tradition forward in Dodge City and Ford County.
Our programs help us:
These efforts are not separate from our mission. They are how our mission becomes visible in the lives of veterans, students, families, and neighbors.
The programs of Post 47 are guided by the Four Pillars of The American Legion. These pillars help ensure that our work remains focused on service, responsibility, citizenship, and care for future generations.
We support veterans through advocacy, assistance, military honors, outreach, and programs that recognize their service and sacrifice.
We support active-duty service members, military families, and efforts that promote a strong national defense and respect for military service.
We promote patriotism, civic responsibility, constitutional principles, and respect for the American flag through education and community involvement.
We help young people develop leadership, citizenship, character, and educational opportunity through programs, scholarships, and mentoring.
The American Legion is a national organization, but every community has different needs. Post 47 focuses its efforts where our members, volunteers, and partners can make a meaningful local difference.
Our work includes support for:
As the needs of Dodge City and Ford County change, our programs can also grow, adapt, and develop new ways to serve.
Successful programs are rarely the work of one person or organization. Post 47 depends on cooperation throughout the community.
We are grateful for partnerships involving:
These partnerships allow Post 47 to reach more people, share resources, and provide services that would be difficult to accomplish alone.
Some Post 47 programs are longstanding traditions. Others are seasonal, depend on available volunteers, or develop in response to new opportunities. We believe programs should grow thoughtfully and remain connected to real community needs.
When considering a new or expanded program, we look at:
Future goals include expanding educational outreach, strengthening youth leadership opportunities, growing community partnerships, and working toward the development of an American Legion Baseball program.
How can we better serve our veterans and our community?
Every volunteer, donor, school partner, veteran, family member, and community supporter strengthens our ability to serve.
